What Is Counter-Strike 2?
Counter-Strike 2 is Valve's 2023 overhaul of CS:GO, built on Source 2 engine. It replaced CS:GO completely on Steam — if you owned CS:GO, it updated automatically. Source 2 Performance Characteristics
CS2 on Source 2 is more demanding than CS:GO on Source 1 but offers more consistent frame pacing. The game scales better across CPU cores than its predecessor. Shader compilation was a significant issue at launch — the game compiled shaders in the background on first start, causing stuttering.
