Elden Ring was notorious for PC performance issues at launch. Here are the specs needed and the fixes that have helped most players.

Elden Ring PC Requirements

Minimum:
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 / AMD Ryzen 3 3300X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB / AMD Radeon RX 580 4 GB
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • Storage: 60 GB SSD
Recommended:
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB / AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Storage: 60 GB SSD

The PC Port Issues

Elden Ring launched in February 2022 with significant PC-specific problems:
  • Frame rate capped at 60 FPS initially
  • Stuttering from shader compilation
  • No ultrawide support at launch
  • Mouse and keyboard feel sub-optimal compared to controller
Many of these issues have been patched or addressed by community fixes.

Community Fixes

Elden Ring FPS Unlocker and More: A community utility that removes the 60 FPS cap and adds various quality-of-life improvements. The cap was officially raised in patches, but the tool adds additional options. Nvidia DLSS/DLAA mod: DLSS and DLAA were not included natively. Fan-made mods added DLSS support, significantly improving performance on RTX cards. ReShade antialiasing: Elden Ring's native AA implementation is weak. ReShade SMAA injection provides cleaner edges.

Controller Recommendation

Elden Ring was designed for controller play. Using a PS4/PS5 DualShock/DualSense or Xbox controller on PC provides the intended experience. The game's icon prompts match controllers perfectly.
