Stardew Valley PC Requirements: The Cozy Farming Game That Runs on Almost Anything

What Is Stardew Valley?

Stardew Valley by ConcernedApe (developed solo by Eric Barone) is a farming simulation RPG. Players inherit a farm, grow crops, raise animals, explore mines, and build relationships with the town's residents. It has sold over 30 million copies and is widely beloved for its relaxing gameplay.

PC Requirements

Minimum:

• CPU: 2 GHz
• GPU: 256 MB video memory, DirectX 10 compatible
• RAM: 2 GB
• Storage: 500 MB

Recommended: Same as minimum — the game is intentionally very light.

Why Stardew Runs on Anything

Stardew Valley was built in C# using MonoGame, a cross-platform framework. The 2D pixel art graphics are essentially textures at fixed resolutions. There is no advanced 3D rendering, no physics simulation, no modern shader work. On a modern PC, Stardew Valley will run at max settings locked at 60 FPS with CPU and GPU at near-idle. The game can run on decade-old laptops, integrated graphics, and even some tablets.

The Multiplayer Update

Stardew Valley supports co-op for up to 4 players (since the 1.3 update). Even in multiplayer, the performance requirements remain trivially low.

Mods

The Stardew Valley modding community uses SMAPI (Stardew Modding API). Thousands of mods add content, quality of life improvements, and visual overhauls. Even heavily modded Stardew Valley runs on modest hardware.
