What Is the EA App? EA's New Game Launcher Replacing Origin
The EA App replaced Origin as Electronic Arts' PC gaming launcher. Here is what changed and how to manage it.
Origin to EA App
Electronic Arts launched Origin as its PC game client in 2011. In 2023, EA formally retired Origin and replaced it with the EA App — a rebuilt, lighter-weight launcher. If you had an Origin account, all your games and purchases transferred automatically. What's on the EA App
- EA Sports titles: EA Sports FC (FIFA), Madden NFL, NBA Live
- Battlefield series
- The Sims series
- Apex Legends (free to play)
- Mass Effect / Dragon Age / Anthem
- Star Wars titles: Jedi Fallen Order, Jedi Survivor, Battlefront II
- Need for Speed series
- It Takes Two, A Way Out, Hazelight titles
EA Play Subscription
EA Play is EA's subscription service, offering:- Basic tier: Play trials (10 hours) of new EA releases, access to an EA Play vault of older titles, in-game rewards
- Pro tier: Full access to new EA titles on launch day
Performance Notes
The EA App is lighter than Origin. However, the EA App background service can occasionally cause issues. If you experience crashes or games failing to launch, clearing the EA App cache (C:Users[user]AppDataLocalElectronic ArtsEA Desktopcache) often resolves them. EA titles typically require the EA App to be running even when launched through Steam.Stop Guessing — Get a Real Fix
