Xbox Game Pass for PC: What You Get and How It Works
Xbox Game Pass PC lets you play hundreds of games for a monthly subscription fee. Here is what is included and how to manage it.
What Is Xbox Game Pass for PC?
Xbox Game Pass for PC (now called PC Game Pass) is Microsoft's subscription service for Windows gaming. For a monthly fee, subscribers get access to a rotating catalog of hundreds of games — AAA titles, indie games, and every first-party Microsoft Studio game on day one of release. What's Included
- Hundreds of games playable for as long as you're subscribed
- Xbox Game Studios titles on day one — Halo, Forza, Starfield, etc.
- EA Play membership included (access to EA's subscription catalog)
- Perks — in-game content for games like Fortnite, Roblox, and others
- Cloud gaming — stream games to PC without downloading them (requires good internet)
How It Works Technically
Games are downloaded and installed through the Xbox app on Windows. They are DRM-protected and require an active subscription to launch. If your subscription lapses, games become inaccessible until you resubscribe (save data is preserved).Xbox App Performance Considerations
The Xbox app and Windows Game Bar add some overhead. For best gaming performance:- Disable Xbox Game Bar (Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar) if you do not use it
- Ensure the Xbox app is not running unnecessary background processes
Is It Worth It?
At the current price point (approximately $11.99/month for PC), Game Pass is excellent value if you play multiple included games per month. If you primarily buy and keep games permanently, the traditional purchase model may suit you better. Microsoft releases all its first-party titles (Forza, Halo, etc.) on day one, making it outstanding value for fans of those franchises.Stop Guessing — Get a Real Fix
